So you’ve survived the first month of the year and now we’re into freezing February… welcome Valentine’s Day! The most romantic day of the year tends to have an element of confusion too with questions such as “what should I do?”, “are the best gifts always expensive?” and “is this too simple?”. Well, you’ve come to the right place as here at MAKE International we’ve thought of five brilliant Valentine’s Day ideas that will wow your special someone but won’t leave a burning hole in your wallet or purse…
1. Jar of Hearts
Origami hearts are sweet and simple to create. Follow the instructions below to make cute little hearts using any colour theme that you want. Once your heart masterpieces have been completed, place them into a chosen jar and add your own personalised finishing touches. If you want you could even write tiny love notes and place them inside the jar too!
2. Become explorers
Go on an adventure to a place that neither of you have been to before. It can be rather entertaining, whether it’s a town that you’ve been meaning to visit for ages or a forest or park that you’ve only just discovered. Open your mind, the world is your playground so go and have fun! Surprise yourself, discover something new together and make memories that you’ll never forget!
3. Snuggle up with a movie
Why spend lots of money on an expensive day out when you can have a perfect time at home. Bring out your inner child by creating a cosy pillow and blanket fort in your very own house. Be as creative and as wacky as you want – fairy lights can be added to set the scene – just make sure it’s super comfortable. You could even enjoy a film marathon with snacks…
Top 5 film recommendations for Valentine’s Day:
- Brief Encounter
- Slumdog millionaire
- 500 Days of Summer
- How to lose a guy in 10 days
- Four Weddings and a Funeral
Want to create your own romantic mood lighting? You need to do nothing more than dim the main lights and light a few tealights. Very simple yet nice and effective 🙂 If you are feeling really creative you can make your own tealights – it’s a great activity to do together or as a gift. You’ll have to look up online how to do it though, somewhere like here!
5. Red velvet mug cake
Surprise your special someone with a quick and easy yet thoughtful mug cake. This treat is the perfect little gift and nothing says I love you better than food 🙂 You just need your favourite MAKE International mug…
1 large egg
3 tbsp vegetable out
1 tsp red food colouring
3 tbsp buttermilk
2 tsp vanilla extract
3 tbsp granulated sugar
2 tbsp cocoa powder
3 tbsp self-rising flour
½ tsp white vinegar
This recipe serves 1 but if you feel like stepping up the romance you double the ingredients and make two mugs worth OR why not chuck it all into one large mug to make a yummy treat to share!
1.Combine all ingredients into a mug you ‘love’.
2.Whisk until smooth.
3.Microwave for 1 minute.
4. Personalise it however you wish… topping ideas:
- Marshmallow fluff
- Fresh berries
- Cream cheese frosting
- Whipped cream
This cake is best eaten still warm so why not get everything ready before your ‘other half’ gets home and then pop it in the microwave when you’re ready – the perfect end to your Valentine’s dinner 🙂
Good luck and have a happy Valentine’s Day!
